Statement of intent

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)

Product 1

In my print product of two lifestyle magazines, I intend to use a variety of media language techniques to promote the product to a demographic of a 16–25-year-old middle market aspirational audience. One way in which I will do this is by including different social groups on the front covers of my magazines to appeal to the target audience and promote diversity. As well as that, I will include eye catching cover lines and straplines to draw readers attention as well as anchor the genre of the magazines as lifestyle. My content pages will include more images with strong colours in order to be aesthetically pleasing to the young audience and those with models will be striking to adhere to it aiming to be inspirational. As well as that, the content page will have colours that coincide with those used on the front cover, specifically the masthead, to achieve a house style. The cover lines on the front covers as well as the articles on the content pages will reflect the zeitgeist of the magazine and include current events and trends that the target audience would want to engage with. I also intend to use intertextuality to another popular media product in a coverline of one of my front covers.

Product 2

On my online product, the website, I intend to make the appearance of it simplistic with strong images similar to other magazines such as Dazed, Vogue and another one of Hearst’s magazines; Harper’s Bazaar. The website will have a variety of ways for audiences to interact, by submitting their own images as well as ideas and including an easter egg for them to subscribe to the magazine in order to achieve audience involvement. A variety of pages will be available, as well as a wide range of different articles with witty and simple headings. These articles will be presented with appropriate images and will reflect the zeitgeist with various topics to interest the target audience. The website will be easy to navigate, as well using a reoccurring typography to form a house style for the website and appeal aesthetically to the demographic. Many conventions of magazine websites will appear, with home and subscribe icons as well as the magazines title. The website will also feature a short audio-visual to introduce the magazine and the brand and display the ideologies of it.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)

The two products, print and online will work accordingly to each other, with the same type face for the masthead/ magazine name to form a sense of brand identity. The content page of both magazines will include a call to action, directing readers to find the website for the magazine in order to link the two. As well as that, the website will include a copy of all of the print products, connecting the two together and aid the cross media convergence. There will also be articles featured on the website that also appear in the print magazines content pages or front cover, so that the print product is available to see there as well to increase the convergence.

After doing some further research, I discovered this vogue front cover where the cover lines are placed on the left. From this I took inspiration and rearranged my cover line placement which I think works better especially with my photo. I have also began changing the font type and size for them as well and the colours.
